Jerry Bertoldo is a retired Senior Extension Associate and Dairy Specialist with the NWNY Dairy, Livestock and Field Crops Team of Cornell Cooperative Extension. His focus was on animal health, nutrition, youngstock management, and the venues associated with outreach to dairy producers and their employees. Jerry attended both the Colleges of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University.
For 22 years he worked as a large animal practitioner focusing on dairy cattle. He was then employed by Agway Feed and Nutrition for five years as a technical services rep where his responsibilities included dairy sales force support in the field, educational programs, and veterinary advisement in New York and Pennsylvania.
Jerry has always been drawn to history, the outdoors, and conservation. He is intrigued by railroads, ships, and steam equipment. He was a partner and co-manager for 25 years with Tioga Central Railroad, a tourist operation located first in the Southern Tier of New York and then northern Pennsylvania. He is a licensed locomotive engineer. He volunteers for the Adirondack Scenic Railroad and the East Broad Top Railroad in south central Pennsylvania.
On the environmental side, Jerry is a long time member of the Nature Conservancy, National Parks Association and American Farmland Trust. He is actively working to sustainably manage the family’s 45-acre mixed hardwood property and pass it on to the next generation.
