City of Rochester and Genesee RiverWatch tour the lower Genesee River, Aug 4th 2015
Taking advantage of a beautiful August morning, Genesee RiverWatch toured the lower Genesee river with City of Rochester Commissioner of Environmental Services Norman Jones, members of the City Environmental and Planning staffs and Tom Snyder from the Seneca Park Zoo. Steve Gibbs, President of Gibbs Marine Group, made the trip possible, volunteering both the boat and his knowledge of the river. Rochester’s updated Local Waterfront Revitalization Program and the Harbor Management Plan outline ideas for improved access sites and facilities to serve boaters, paddlers, fishermen and walkers. The ability to review these sites from the water and generate additional ideas for river improvements and events was invaluable for the entire team.
Sites for the Zoo’s upcoming “One Cubic Foot” event were also investigated. If this makes you curious, go to http://senecaparkzoo.org/page/one-cubic-foot and plan to join us this month in learning about the biodiversity of the river.
See our Green Drinks event listing for a celebration of One Cubic Foot on Wednesday, August 12th.
The late morning rainstorm at Turning Point Park only added to the enjoyment of a day on the river!
