I’m thrilled to become a member of the Genesee RiverWatch’s Board of Directors. This opportunity enables me to pursue many of my life’s passions, like feeling a sense of geologic, native American and local natural history surrounding me; restoring water quality and threatened ecological resources within an amazing rivershed having not one, not two, but six scenic waterfalls to enjoy; challenging and updating the extent of my scientific knowledge of a unique and diverse watershed; and best of all, paddling and playing with so many interesting, passionate and dedicated river enthusiasts.
Professionally, my career has focused on environmental protection, ecological restoration, applied research in water quality and invasive species control, and sustainable watershed management. I’ve served in a variety of positions including photo-documenting major marine oil spills for the U.S. Coast Guard’s marine environmental response program, directing and expanding the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation’s Great Lakes program leading to restoration of the Genesee River-Rochester Embayment Area of Concern, managing a nationwide environmental consulting program responding to oil and toxic chemical emergencies, and supporting a countywide non-profit watershed protection organization.
I have a bachelor’s degree in Conservation Biology from SUNY Fredonia State University and have completed many advanced professional and post-graduate courses in environmental policy, natural resource management and military/corporate leadership subjects. My goal is to enable the river’s many communities and youth to enjoy and appreciate the Genesee River with me. Let’s go paddle!!
