Protecting and celebrating the river
Genesee RiverWatch works to improve the water quality of the Genesee River and its tributaries to create environmental, recreational, and economic assets for its communities. We also connect people to the river, encouraging them to explore, experience and celebrate the river. We are committed to:
Improving Water Quality
We collaborate with others to seek ways to improve the water quality of the watershed. We design, obtain funding for, and execute projects to restore streambanks along the river to reduce phosphorus and sediment load in the river and preserve valuable farmland.
Connecting People to the River
We encourage people to explore, experience and celebrate the river by creating awareness and by increasing access for boating, fishing, hiking and biking.
Informing and Educating
We enhance public knowledge of the Genesee River and strive to increase commitment to its future health and use through actions such as our Genesee River Basin Report Card, Genesee River Basin Summits and water quality monitoring.
Facilitating Aquatic Education
We facilitate educational experiences to connect students and teachers to the Genesee River Basin.
Carbon Neutral Policy
Recognizing the impact our construction projects might have, Genesee RiverWatch has adopted a Carbon Neutral Policy.
Thorndike Awards
Genesee RiverWatch seeks to recognize the work of individuals and organizations who have made significant contributions to “protecting and celebrating our river”. We do this in the form of the Elizabeth Thorndike Environmental Excellence Awards.
